Ladies, we all know we're capable of doing a lot of impressive things.
But how comfortable are you with shooting firearms?
Sandy Clark hasn't had a lot of experience with guns, but she sees her son and husband shoot, and would like to help other women get acquainted, too.
“I really feel that women have a desire to learn about guns, but they are intimidated by men, and then, instructors,” she said. “So what I'd like to do is learn all I can from the NRA and the Women on Target, and to be able to pass that onto girls up near my area"
This year, registration was full weeks in advance.
“More women are getting involved, they're loving it,” said Instructor Lorie Doll. “We're breaking the stereotype that guns are scary, and it's wonderful. We get more ladies out every year. This year we added a second clinic, and we're looking next year to have three.”
Those who attend are different women when they leave, Doll reveals.
“They are pretty timid,” she laughed. “They're, 'Oh, I'm not sure I wanna do that,' And as we work them down the line, you can see the confidence get bigger and bigger and bigger. We start out with something really small and easy, and work their way up, and by the time they leave here, they're outta sight!”
“I think that women are a target themselves, out in our society right now, and I believe that we need to know how to be safe in a normal situation,” Sandy shared. “But also, if we want to be safe carrying a firearm at some point in our life, that we need to have that instruction, so that we can carry it safely and we can feel confident with it.”
