Florida Gov. Rick Scott is expected to sign a bill that will make the state the first in the nation to prohibit doctors from asking patients if they own guns. The bill is aimed particularly at pediatricians, who routinely ask new parents if they have guns at home and if they're stored safely.
Pediatricians say it's about preventing accidental injuries. Gun rights advocates say the doctors have a political agenda.
Leftist gun-control nuts want to abuse our trust in doctors to create “gun registries” that will be used in future control lobbying efforts. THAT is what this is about. Not safety. Tell your Doctor to mind his own business.
Gun accidents do not happen when the gun safety rules are followed. What idiots don’t follow them, get Darwin awards. What needs to be done has already been done. No new laws need be created, and laws need be no tougher. The current laws just need to be enforced. Likewise, guns need be no safer no harder to obtain. The safety rules just need to be followed!
I think that the NRA could solve this in one simple step. Create a flyer about gun safety aimed at new parents. Distribute it for free to pediatricians for them to give to new patients. In return, Doctors employ a "don't ask don't tell" policy on the subject. Problem solved.
