Shepard to his flock

Pastors, reverends, priests and rabbi are often refereed to as the Sheppard of their flocks.

Shepard: (n) One who keeps their flock intact and protects it from wolves and other predators. The duty of the shepherd was also to supervise the migration of the flock.
I am a pastor, CHL-holder, and carry at all times. I was a student at Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth in 1999 when a gunman entered the nearby Wedgwood Baptist Church during a Youth rally and killed 7 people, wounded 7 more then killed himself. The shooter used two pistols and a pipe bomb and had time to change magazines several times as he walked through the church, shooting some as they cowered beneath the pews. One of the dead was a classmate of mine.

My calling is to love, nurture and care for people, but I and my congregation will not be defenseless targets for a madman.
