New Texas bill lets police take guns away from those who have already been
court ordered to receive inpatient psychiatric treatment, in which case federal
law would prohibit them from possessing a firearm. It also sets up a procedure for returning
them to the owner safely.
The measure has passed both house and senate, and now goes to Perry, who
can sign the bill, veto it or allow it to become law without his signature.
